Mechane

The device consists in a movement-control interface allowing the player to influence and to move within an imaginary territory projected in the room. The title of the installation comes from the word "mèchanè", an ancient Greek word which means “engine”. It is a reference to the crane used in Greek theaters in the 4th and 5th centuries BC to carry gods onto the stage.

The installation is about the notion of supernature, the influence on our ecosystem and the inherent disorders caused by the human activities. The sketch was inspired by the painting Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, by Caspar David Friedrich.
